There are many reasons to have a blog on your website. The first, and main, reason is to create a page of useful information that can help your customers and prospects. It also doesn’t hurt to have a blog that works well on SEO.

If you write articles to support your services with the right keywords in there, over time, you will improve your website’s overall position with Google. However, you can’t just write an article and then expect Google to like it, can you?

Start with SEO headers

Your article needs one H1 header, usually at the top of the article. That header needs to have the keywords you are trying to rank for. For instance, this article wants to rank for searches on blog posts and SEO. So we have mentioned it in the main heading at the top.

However, a good article has a series of H2 headers, some of which will display their important keywords. This helps Google know exactly what the article is about and what it wants to rank for.

Keywords in your body text

Another way to make sure that your blogs help with the website’s SEO is to include the keywords in your body text. The important thing to remember, however, is that they should be spread throughout your article but not in such a way that it looks like you have decided to plaster the keywords across your body text as often as possible.

Google will appreciate the frequent mentions but does penalise articles for keyword stuffing.

Blogs should have images with alt. text

Even your images should be primed for SEO. Not only do images make your article look more appealing to read, but they can help with your overall rankings. This is why alt. text is important.

If you describe your images, try to make sure that in (at least) one of them the alt. text uses the keywords you want to rank for. By doing this, you are also helping with your article’s accessibility.

Linking in and out of your website

Google also likes links in your articles. Those that link to other pages in your website, and those that link to articles on other websites. If you make sure to include these in your Blogs, your SEO rankings will improve over time.

This is easy to do if you are writing about one of your services. You can simply link to the appropriate page when you mention it. Also, it is easy to find another article that talks about similar services and products. Just be careful not to include your direct competitors.
Blog Content for SEO on a post-it

However, don’t sacrifice readability for rankability

Whilst these points are important for making sure that your blog article helps your websites SEO, it’s important to remember that you still want them to be read. Yes, there’s a kind of algorithmic formula to blog writing on your website, but Google still likes people to spend time on the page itself. You can’t do that if you have just stuffed a lot of keywords on a page.

Continue to write for your audience, after all you are still trying to help them.
